Apart from Champagne, where very little Pinot Noir is intended for still wine, the Côtes d'Auxerre is the northernmost French appelation for this esteemed red grape, and it certainly has a different character to the Burgundies from further south. With a savory streak, and a pleasant underripeness to the fruit here, the Domaine Bersan is less lush than most Pinots, but it more than makes up for it with elegance and intrigue. This rare wine will be a winner with Burgundy-lovers and red wine fans alike.
Whether it's Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, it's tough to beat Roast Chicken with Burgundy. Enjoy this wine with fire-roasted mushrooms, or a simple carbonara or amatriciana.
