It's impossible to talk about the Grolleau grape without mentioning the Loire Valley. It's a varietal that you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world, and growers take a special kind of pride in working with this native grape. This wine is a great example of how charming Grolleau can be. With light intimations of purple fruit on the nose and a trademark earthen characteristic, it's both straightforward and delicious, but also remarkably nuanced. The key with a lighter bodied red like Grolleau is to not overwhelm it. A nice pâté of chicken livers and toast points, grilled scallops with beurre blanc, or grilled squash with pesto and bleu cheese will all be excellent choices.
