Tasting Notes
Johannes Trapl is in the middle of a reclamation project in Carnuntum. Once known as a place for big, over-oaked commercial wines, Trapl has gone back to nature. His wines are always aromatically complex, and this red shows no different. Opening witha bouquet of cranberries, mint, and a hint of vanilla, the palate is sweet-fruited and pure, with some nice backing minerality. This is a fabulous example of just how classy Austrian red can be.
Pairing Suggestion
Most Austrian red is great with sausage, but try it with other pork options, too! A classic center-cut chop with apples and potato salad or carnitas would both be fantastic options. There's also an earthiness to this wine that makes it a great pairing for mushrooms, as well.
