Tasting Notes
Dornfelder is a classic example of science-led wine growing in places where it wasn't necessarily possible before. A grape that was only created in 1979 through a series of cross-breeding, it is more resilient to the growing conditions in Germany and has more flavor, color, tannin, and yields than almost all other red German varieties. In this blend, it lends the aromatic Pinot Noir some of this color, along with some real palate weight, and a healthy amount of tannins. It finishing clean with some earth and mineral notes. As growers face changing climate conditions, expect to see many more stories like Dornfelder out there, and a whole new world of wines to try! DEEP-AND-DARK AROMATIC MINERAL STEMMY COMPLEX
Pairing Suggestion
Pinot Noir from cool climates has a natural affinity for sausages and sausage-based dishes, and the Dunkeldorn is no different. Serve a currywurst or a weisswurst with plenty of whole grain Dijon, a classic French cassoulet, or Cajun dirty rice. The darkness of this wine makes it an ideal match for slow-roasted beets, too!
